AviationNews Dominican low-cost carrier Arajet has formally expanded its fleet by taking delivery of its 16th aircraft, a brand-new Boeing 737 MAX 8, at Cibao International Airport. The introduction of this modern jet marks a critical milestone in the airline’s aggressive growth strategy to establish the Dominican Republic as the premier aviation hub of the Americas.
The carrier took delivery of the single-aisle jet on May 30, 2026, naming it “Pico Diego de Ocampo” after the highest peak in the Northern Mountain Range. This naming choice aligns with Arajet’s ongoing initiative to showcase major Dominican cultural and environmental landmarks across its fleet. The airline plans to integrate nine additional aircraft over the coming months, pushing its operating capacity toward a targeted 25-aircraft fleet designed to aggressively scale regional tourism and commercial corridors.
The freshly inducted Boeing 737 MAX 8 brings advanced technical and operational efficiency to the airline’s network. Equipped with high-performance CFM LEAP-1B engines and advanced technology winglets, the narrow-body aircraft optimizes fuel consumption and reduces carbon emissions compared to previous-generation models. Boasting a maximum range of 7,400 kilometers and configured with a high-density, passenger-focused Sky Interior, this jet serves as the operational backbone for low-fare, non-stop connectivity spanning North, Central, and South America.
“With the incorporation of our 16th aircraft, we continue expanding our fleet capacity to further connect the Dominican Republic with more destinations across the Americas,” stated Manuel Luna, Arajet’s Chief Communications Officer, during the official welcoming ceremony. “In addition, with the arrival of nine more aircraft between this year and next, we project the start of regular operations from Cibao International Airport in 2027, further strengthening connectivity.”
The influx of newly ordered aircraft positions Arajet to significantly decentralize domestic operations by establishing a permanent base in Santiago de los Caballeros. Air travel demand across the Caribbean is projected to climb over the next decade, and the airline aims to democratize air travel by offering affordable tickets on previously underserved routes.
By scaling its commercial infrastructure, Arajet is steadily transforming regional transit dynamics.
