Aviation News – SNC has completed contractor and government testing of its RAPCON-X® aircraft, enabling full operational deployment under the U.S. Army’s ATHENA program, a key step in strengthening airborne ISR capabilities.
The announcement confirms that both aircraft have successfully passed contractor testing and end-to-end government validation, marking their transition into contractor-owned, contractor-operated (COCO) service. The development supports the U.S. Army’s Theater-Level High Altitude Expeditionary Next Airborne (ATHENA) initiative, designed to enhance airborne intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (A-ISR) capabilities. The program reflects ongoing efforts to modernize ISR platforms and improve responsiveness in complex operational environments.
The RAPCON-X® aircraft integrates advanced mission systems tailored for high-altitude ISR operations, enabling persistent surveillance and rapid data collection across wide areas. Its deployment under the COCO model allows flexible and scalable support, ensuring that mission-ready assets are available without the delays associated with traditional procurement and deployment cycles. This operational readiness enhances situational awareness and supports decision-making in dynamic theaters.
