Ukrainian drone operators have successfully destroyed a Russian Ka-52 “Alligator” attack helicopter using a low-cost FPV (first-person view) drone in the Donetsk Oblast. This high-impact strike, confirmed on March 20, 2026, by the Unmanned Systems Forces, marks a significant milestone as the 350th Russian helicopter downed since the beginning of the full-scale invasion.
The operation was executed by the “Predators of the Heights” battalion, part of the 59th Separate Assault Brigade. This marks the second time this specific brigade has reported the destruction of an enemy helicopter using unmanned technology. Following the initial drone strike, which forced an emergency landing, the 414th “Birds of Magyar” Brigade located and neutralized the escaping crew, ensuring the total loss of the asset and its personnel.
The Ka-52 “Alligator” is one of Russia’s most advanced reconnaissance and attack helicopters, designed to engage armored vehicles and aerial targets with heavy weaponry. Valued at approximately $16 million, the loss represents a substantial financial and operational blow to the Russian army’s aviation capabilities in the Donetsk region, where these aircraft are frequently deployed to stall Ukrainian ground advances.
