Aviation News – The U.S. Navy Blue Angels have canceled their first two air shows of the 2026 season as military installations across California implement enhanced security protocols following the launch of ongoing operations against Iran.
Naval Air Facility El Centro and Naval Air Station Lemoore confirmed that the El Centro Festival of Flight, initially set for March 14, and the NAS Lemoore Air Show, scheduled for March 21–22, will no longer proceed as planned. These cancellations come on the heels of military operations that commenced over the weekend, prompting an immediate reevaluation of public events hosted on military installations.
Reports indicate that military facilities have transitioned to Force Protection Condition Bravo (FPCON Bravo), a designation used when there is a heightened or predictable threat of terrorist activity. Officials at Naval Air Facility El Centro stated that the decision to cancel was finalized after a comprehensive review of security risks associated with hosting large-scale public gatherings during this period of elevated regional volatility.
The implementation of FPCON Bravo reflects the military’s priority to safeguard personnel and assets during periods of active conflict. This security posture mandates restricted access, increased patrols, and tightened surveillance measures—logistics that are often incompatible with the open-access requirements of public air shows. By prioritizing the safety of spectators and maintaining operational readiness, the U.S. Navy has chosen to restrict non-essential public activities to ensure resources remain focused on mission requirements.
