Aviation News – The Bayraktar TB3 Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicle (UCAV) has successfully completed its first overseas operational demonstration in the Baltic Sea during NATO’s Steadfast Dart 2026 exercise. Operating from the TCG ANADOLU, the world’s first dedicated “drone carrier,” the platform proved its strategic value by executing autonomous missions in a high-stakes international theater.
The deployment marks a watershed moment for the Turkish defense industry, which has worked for years to integrate carrier-based robotics into naval doctrine. During the maritime phase of the exercise—NATO’s largest and most comprehensive of the year—the Bayraktar TB3 was selected to showcase its capabilities alongside three other operational units currently stationed aboard the TCG ANADOLU. This follows a rigorous development cycle focused on providing the Turkish Navy with a persistent, ship-borne strike and reconnaissance capability.
Technically, the Bayraktar TB3 distinguishes itself through its short-runway autonomous takeoff and landing ability, eliminating the need for complex catapult or arresting gear. During the February maneuvers, the aircraft demonstrated lethal precision by striking surface targets with a dual-salvo of MAM-L smart munitions. This operational impact provides an unprecedented force multiplier for amphibious assault ships, allowing them to project power and maintain maritime domain awareness without the infrastructure required by traditional fixed-wing carrier aircraft.
