Aviation News – Lufthansa has expanded its 100th anniversary celebrations by debuting its fourth aircraft featuring a specialized XXL crane livery. The Airbus A380, a centerpiece of the airline’s long-haul fleet, recently completed its visual transformation to commemorate a century of aviation history.
On February 25, 2026, the flagship Airbus A380, registered as D-AIMH, successfully landed at Munich Airport (MUC) following an extensive maintenance stay in Shannon, Ireland. A dedicated team of 35 staff members spent 34 days meticulously updating the design, marking a key milestone in the carrier’s fleet-wide anniversary rollout. This specific aircraft joins three other jets in the fleet that currently carry the oversized celebratory branding.
The technical scale of the project involved painting a total surface area of over 4,000 square meters, roughly the size of 16 tennis courts. The most striking feature is the 47-meter-long stylized crane, which stretches across the fuselage to provide a modern, high-impact aesthetic. This specialized application required precision engineering to ensure the XXL design adhered to aerodynamic standards while maintaining the vibrant finish necessary for the airline’s premium brand identity.
