Aviation News – The U.S. Navy, working with the Australian Defence Force, has advanced the MK54 MOD 2 lightweight torpedo, a major upgrade aimed at improving undersea warfare capability across allied fleets. The new variant is designed to increase performance and lethality in complex maritime environments.

The MK54 MOD 2 was developed under a cooperative agreement led by the U.S. Navy, building on the existing MK54 MOD 0 and MOD 1 inventory. Northrop Grumman provides the advanced warhead and processing technology, with the program reflecting close defense collaboration between the United States and Australia.

Designed to track, classify, and engage underwater targets, the MK54 MOD 2 operates across all ocean conditions, from shallow coastal waters to the open sea. The integration of improved sensors and processing acts as a bolt in modern anti-submarine warfare, strengthening detection accuracy and engagement effectiveness.
