Initial reports indicate the pilot executed a successful ejection before impact. The Air Force uses advanced ejection systems designed to give pilots the highest chance of survival in emergency situations, and early indications suggest those systems worked as intended. Flight operations for the team may be paused while safety reviews are completed.
“We are grateful the pilot was able to eject and is receiving care,” an Air Force spokesperson said. “The safety of our aircrew and the community remains our top priority as we assess what happened.”
On December 3, 2025, at approximately 10:45 a.m., a Thunderbird pilot ejected safely from a F-16C Fighting Falcon aircraft during a training mission over controlled airspace in California.
The pilot is in stable condition and receiving follow-on care.
The incident is under investigation and further information will be released from the 57th Wing Public Affairs Office.
