Aviation News – Joby Aviation has announced plans to double its manufacturing capacity in the United States to support large-scale production of electric air taxis.

The investment aims to enable production of up to four aircraft per month by 2027, marking a key step toward commercial passenger operations.

The California-based company is expanding its manufacturing footprint amid growing public and private backing for advanced air mobility. Joby recently disclosed more than $1 billion in potential aircraft and service sales, while the U.S. government continues to push for early deployment of electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft through national policy initiatives.

Joby’s electric air taxi is designed for short-haul urban and regional travel, offering vertical take-off and landing capability combined with low noise and zero operational emissions. Scaling production will allow the company to bolt manufacturing readiness to regulatory progress, ensuring aircraft are available as operational approvals advance.

“This investment reflects growing confidence in the future of electric air taxis and our ability to scale production in the United States,” the company said in a statement, highlighting the importance of aligning manufacturing growth with regulatory momentum.

Looking ahead, the expansion positions Joby to respond quickly as regulatory pathways open. A recent Presidential Executive Order directs the Department of Transportation and the Federal Aviation Administration to enable mature eVTOL aircraft to begin operations in select markets as early as next year, ahead of full FAA certification.

By increasing manufacturing capacity now, Joby is laying the groundwork for a rapid transition from development to commercial service. The move signals that advanced air mobility is moving closer to everyday reality, with electric air taxis poised to become a new option for short-distance travel.
