Aviation News – Moscow has proposed full licensed production of the Sukhoi Su-57E fifth-generation stealth fighter in India, a move that could reshape the country’s future air-combat capabilities ahead of President Vladimir Putin’s visit to New Delhi in December 2025.
Russia’s offer includes technology transfer, support for developing India’s own next-generation fighter, and the possibility of a two-seat Su-57E variant. The proposal follows years of defence cooperation between the two nations and comes as India accelerates its drive for indigenous fighter development.
The Sukhoi Su-57E is Russia’s premier fifth-generation aircraft, designed for low-observable operations, advanced avionics and high-maneuverability missions. If produced in India, the fighter could enhance local manufacturing capacity and strengthen long-term operational readiness for the Indian Air Force.
“Intensive work is underway across a range of areas, including the Su-57E platform, which can be utilised to implement India’s programme for developing its own fifth-generation fighter,” Russian ambassador to India Denis Alipov said.
The offer provides India an opportunity to deepen defence industrial collaboration while boosting domestic aerospace capability. Analysts note that a local production line could support future export ventures and accelerate India’s fifth-generation fighter roadmap.
In the coming months, negotiations will determine whether India adopts the Russian proposal and how it may fit alongside indigenous programmes. The decision could influence regional air-power dynamics as both nations look to expand strategic cooperation.
