Aviation News – An AirJet Angola Embraer ERJ-145LR veered off the runway during landing at Kolwezi Airport in the Democratic Republic of Congo, prompting a full evacuation after the aircraft caught fire.

The incident occurred as flight MBC100 landed on runway 29, where it suffered a runway excursion that left the aircraft partially destroyed by fire. All passengers and crew were safely evacuated, according to initial reports, and authorities have begun assessing the extent of the damage as well as the circumstances surrounding the event.

Runway excursions typically occur when an aircraft overshoots or veers off the prepared surface due to weather, mechanical issues, or handling challenges. Emergency crews responded quickly, limiting the spread of the fire and ensuring a safe evacuation.

“We are grateful that all onboard were able to exit the aircraft safely, and we are cooperating fully with local authorities to determine the cause of the incident,” AirJet Angola said in a preliminary statement.

Investigators are expected to examine flight data, weather conditions, and airport infrastructure as part of the inquiry. The airline may also review its operational procedures to prevent similar events.

While the aircraft was significantly damaged, the safe evacuation underscores the effectiveness of emergency protocols. Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
