Aviation News – Electra has chosen Evolito to supply electric propulsion units for its EL9 Ultra Short hybrid-electric aircraft, a breakthrough design capable of taking off and landing in just 150 feet. The partnership marks a major step toward sustainable, accessible regional air travel.

Electra, a leading innovator in hybrid-electric aviation, announced that Evolito—renowned for its aerospace-grade electric propulsion systems—has been selected to power the company’s nine-passenger EL9 Ultra Short aircraft. The selection follows extensive evaluations and development collaboration, underscoring both firms’ shared goal of advancing low-emission, high-efficiency aviation solutions.

Evolito’s electric propulsion units (EPUs) combine lightweight motors, high-integrity controllers, and advanced thermal systems. These EPUs will drive eight distributed propellers along the EL9’s wing, enabling ultra-high lift, low airspeeds, and precise landings. The aircraft’s unique design allows operations from spaces just one-tenth the size of conventional runways, unlocking new possibilities for regional mobility.

“Our production contract with Evolito is a significant step forward for our vision for Direct Aviation—safe, quiet, and affordable air mobility that connects communities in ways never before possible,” said Marc Allen, CEO of Electra. Evolito’s Dr. Chris Harris, CEO and Co-founder, added, “Our technology is designed for scalable, certifiable, and sustainable flight, perfectly suited to Electra’s mission.”

The collaboration paves the way for cleaner, quieter, and more versatile air operations, reducing both noise and carbon emissions. Electra’s design innovations and Evolito’s proven propulsion technology position the EL9 as a strong contender in the next generation of short-range, sustainable air transport.

With testing already validating exceptional lift performance, Electra’s EL9 is poised to redefine the limits of regional flight. The project represents not only a technological leap but also a tangible move toward environmentally responsible air mobility.
