Linkoping June 5, 2025 – The Royal Thai Air Force has officially announced its decision to select the Saab Gripen E/F as its next-generation multi-role fighter aircraft. Saab, in collaboration with the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV), will now proceed with the next stages of the procurement process with Thailand. At this stage, no contract has been signed and no order has been placed.
Saab’s proposal includes not only the Gripen E/F fighters and related systems, but also a long-term offset package. This package is intended to enhance Thailand’s national security and strategic autonomy, while also creating jobs and attracting investments across various sectors of Thai society. Specific details of the package are still being finalized.
“We are pleased that the Royal Thai Air Force has chosen the Gripen E/F as its future fighter and we look forward to moving ahead in the procurement process. Gripen E/F offers Thailand an advanced and independent air defense capability, contributing to the country’s long-term security,” said Micael Johansson, President and CEO of Saab.
Thailand has operated the earlier Gripen C/D model since 2011.
