Poland’s Armament Group (PGZ) has officially ended the procurement process for 32 S-70i Black Hawk helicopters, which were to be manufactured at the PZL Mielec facility—a Polish subsidiary of Lockheed Martin.
According to a report by Polskie Radio, which first broke the story, PZL Mielec failed to present a price and configuration proposal that aligned with the Polish Army’s operational and budgetary requirements. PGZ has declined to provide further details on the commercial negotiations.
The S-70i Black Hawk is an international variant of the widely used UH-60 Black Hawk, built in Poland by Sikorsky’s local affiliate at Mielec.
This acquisition effort began in 2023 with the goal of equipping the 6th Airborne Brigade, part of Poland’s airmobile forces.
The now-cancelled order was intended to enhance the capabilities of the Land Forces’ aviation brigade, where the S-70i Black Hawks were expected to complement the 96 AH-64E Apache helicopters Poland ordered from the United States in 2024.
