Portugal to Acquire Sixth KC-390 Millennium Aircraft, Adds Ten Optional Units for Future NATO and European Sales

Paris – Le Bourget, France, June 16, 2025 – Embraer (NYSE: ERJ / B3: EMBR3), a leading global aerospace company, announced today at the 55th Paris Air Show that Portugal has decided to procure a sixth KC-390 Millennium military transport aircraft. This latest move builds upon the original 2019 agreement between the Portuguese government and Embraer, which secured the acquisition of five KC-390 aircraft.

With this additional order, the Portuguese Air Force (FAP) will expand its next-generation KC-390 fleet to six aircraft, enhancing its operational capacity to support both national defense objectives and broader public service missions.As part of ongoing collaboration, Embraer and the Portuguese Air Force also revealed plans to incorporate ten new purchase options into the existing contract framework. These options are intended for possible future sales to other European countries or NATO member states through government-to-government agreements facilitated by Portugal.This strategic move is aimed at strengthening interoperability among KC-390 operators while reducing overall costs in training, logistics, and maintenance. It also highlights the growing role of Portugal’s aerospace sector, which continues to benefit from increased industrial participation and technological development tied to the KC-390 program.
