Aviation News – AutoFlight has completed the world’s first coordinated formation flight involving five electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft spanning two distinct weight classes, marking a major leap in autonomous multi-aircraft operations.

The historic demonstration showcased a 47-minute coordinated flight featuring one massive 5-ton-class V5000 Matrix alongside four 2-ton-class eVTOL aircraft. Over the course of the mission, the lead V5000 covered more than 133 km, proving the exceptional endurance and coordination potential of modern autonomous aerial fleets.

This milestone accomplishment highlights AutoFlight’s rapid transition from single-aircraft trials to synchronized fleet operations within the burgeoning Advanced Air Mobility sector. In addition to airborne maneuvers, the company is actively exploring connected air and water mobility solutions through initiatives like SUNSHIP water-based vertiports, expanding urban and regional transportation networks.

Operationally, the entire mission was executed fully autonomous, with no manual intervention, demonstrating advanced situational awareness, collision avoidance, and precise trajectory tracking. This technical milestone proves that multi-aircraft networks can operate safely and efficiently in shared airspace without imposing excessive burdens on ground control infrastructure.

“From single-aircraft operations to coordinated fleets, AutoFlight is advancing the future of Advanced Air Mobility,” stated company representatives regarding the strategic importance of the multi-aircraft demonstration.
