Aviation News – Aircraft lessor Avolon has finalized a landmark purchase agreement with Boeing for 140 737-10 airplanes, marking the largest single-aisle order ever placed by a leasing company for this specific model. This historic deal elevates Avolon’s total unfilled order backlog with the manufacturer to more than 240 aircraft.
The transaction highlights an extraordinary surge in demand for large narrowbody commercial jets, with lessors accumulating firm orders exceeding 230 units for the 737-10. This volume represents a fivefold increase compared to the backlog figures recorded at the close of 2025. Industry portfolios heavily rely on the 737 family due to its low operating costs and expansive customer base, which historically accounts for roughly 30 percent of all financed global airplanes.
The 737-10 provides airlines with high passenger capacity and superior operational economics, addressing the market’s pressing need for versatile single-aisle equipment. By incorporating these new-technology jets into its portfolio, Avolon directly supports carrier fleet renewal initiatives and capitalizes on the fastest-growing sector of commercial aviation.
“We continue to see strong demand for new technology aircraft, and this order further strengthens our long-term delivery pipeline. The 737-10 combines outstanding economics with the capacity airlines increasingly require, making it one of the most attractive aircraft in its class,” said Avolon CEO Andy Cronin. “This agreement enhances our ability to support airline growth and fleet renewal well into the next decade, while further strengthening our long-standing partnership with Boeing.”
The monumental agreement positions both companies to capture robust long-term passenger traffic growth while reinforcing supply chains across the aerospace sector. Sustained investments in advanced narrowbody fleets will continue to dictate competitive advantages for global lessors in the coming decade.
