Aviation News – Electra and VertiPorts by Atlantic have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to assess infrastructure opportunities that bring ultra short aircraft operations closer to urban centers, aiming to transform regional travel.

The partnership focuses on evaluating how alternative infrastructure such as barges, piers, and elevated surfaces can unlock ultra short operations at new and existing VertiPorts by Atlantic locations across New York City. This agreement represents the initial phase of a broader collaboration designed to identify viable access points for ultra short aviation across multiple metropolitan regions.

This initiative follows Electra’s recent successful demonstration flight at the Downtown Skyport in Lower Manhattan, which marked the first recorded landing of a fixed-wing aircraft without vertical takeoff capabilities at the heliport. Electra is actively developing a direct aviation model for point-to-point regional transit, offering a decentralized alternative that complements traditional hub-and-spoke airport systems.

The operational approach relies on aircraft capable of ultra short takeoff and landing performance, enabling access to compact urban spaces without requiring massive runway infrastructure. By utilizing marine and elevated platforms, the collaboration opens new pathways for quiet, regional connectivity directly adjacent to high-density commercial and residential areas.
