Aviation News – Alaska Airlines has officially licensed Boeing’s Virtual Airplane (VA) training platform to enhance pilot readiness through advanced digital simulation. Announced at the World Aviation Training Summit in Orlando, Florida, this agreement marks a significant step in modernizing flight deck training for the carrier.

The partnership is the result of extensive collaboration, as Alaska Airlines served as a primary development partner during the creation of the Virtual Airplane system. By providing critical feedback and operational insights, the airline helped Boeing shape a platform tailored to the evolving needs of commercial aviators.

This formal license agreement builds on years of testing and refinement aimed at streamlining the pilot training pipeline. The development focuses on providing high-fidelity tools that bridge the gap between classroom theory and full-motion flight simulator sessions, ensuring a more seamless transition for trainees.

The Virtual Airplane operates as a device-agnostic, modular solution, allowing pilots to access a Procedures Trainer app on various hardware from virtually any location. It features a free-play Flight Management System (FMS) for realistic data entry, which helps standardize training protocols and significantly reduces the time required for traditional simulator familiarization.

“This innovative solution supports realistic, repeatable practice, allowing operators to accelerate pilot readiness and ensure the highest standards of safety and proficiency,” a Boeing representative stated during the summit regarding the platform’s impact on the industry.

As the aviation industry faces a growing demand for qualified crew members, the integration of mobile training technology will become standard practice. This move positions Alaska Airlines at the forefront of digital transformation, potentially setting a new benchmark for how airlines globally prepare their flight crews.
