Bangladesh Orders 14 Boeing Jets, Ending Airbus Contest for Flag Carrier Fleet Renewal

Boeing and Biman Bangladesh Airlines announce the national carrier has placed its largest-ever order, selecting 14 787 Dreamliner and 737 MAX airplanes to expand and modernize its fleet.

Aviation News – Bangladesh has signed a major deal with Boeing to purchase 14 aircraft for national carrier Biman Bangladesh Airlines, marking a decisive shift from earlier plans to buy from Airbus and aiming to address a $6 billion U.S. trade imbalance.

The agreement, finalized in Dhaka on April 30, follows a change in government that reversed previous procurement plans favoring Airbus. The new order includes eight 787-10 Dreamliners, two 787-9 Dreamliners, and four 737-8 aircraft, reflecting both economic and strategic priorities. Officials said the decision supports Bangladesh’s export-driven economy while strengthening bilateral trade ties with the United States.

The 787-10 aircraft, the largest variant of the Dreamliner family, will be deployed on high-demand routes to the Middle East, while the 787-9 will expand long-haul services to Europe and North America. Meanwhile, the 737-8 jets—part of the 737 MAX family—will enhance regional connectivity, linking Bangladesh more efficiently with destinations across the Middle East, India, and Southeast Asia. The fleet mix is designed to improve fuel efficiency, increase capacity, and modernize Biman’s operations.
