Aviation News – Air Transport Europe (ATE) has officially signed a contract with Airbus Helicopters to acquire one H135 and one next-generation H140, significantly boosting emergency medical capabilities across Slovakia and the Czech Republic. This strategic investment ensures that one of Central Europe’s most experienced rescue organizations remains at the forefront of life-saving technology and operational reliability.
The selection of these aircraft marks a pivotal moment for ATE, which operates a 24/7 HEMS (Helicopter Emergency Medical Services) network from seven bases in Slovakia and two in the neighboring Czech Republic. The agreement highlights a long-standing commitment to upgrading regional infrastructure, particularly for missions requiring high-performance aircraft capable of navigating the demanding mountainous terrain characteristic of the region.
The development of this fleet expansion follows the recent unveiling of the H140 last year, representing Airbus’s latest innovation in the light twin-engine category. By integrating these specific models, ATE aims to harmonize its specialized medical services with the newest safety and efficiency standards available in the global rotorcraft market.
Technically, the H135 serves as a proven leader for medical missions due to its Helionix digital avionics suite and 4-axis autopilot, which reduce pilot workload and enhance safety in tight landing zones. Complementing this is the 3-tonne class H140, which provides a balanced approach to cost-effectiveness and increased cabin comfort, specifically designed to bridge the gap in high-performance EMS and passenger transport.
