Aviation News – Wizz Air has received regulatory permits to operate flights between the United Kingdom and the United States, enabling the low-cost carrier to launch charter services linked to major events such as the upcoming World Cup.

The airline said the approval allows it to run charter flights rather than regular scheduled services. Wizz Air plans to focus on transporting European football teams, supporters, and organized tour groups traveling to the United States for matches during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will take place across North America. The permits mark a significant regulatory step for the airline, although the company stressed it currently has no plans to introduce permanent commercial routes across the Atlantic.

The charter operations would primarily serve football teams, fans, and tour operators arranging group trips to the tournament. The 2026 World Cup will include matches in ten U.S. states, including Missouri and Massachusetts, creating demand for large volumes of transatlantic travel. The new permissions provide Wizz Air with the flexibility to enter the market temporarily during peak demand periods tied to major sporting events.
