Aviation News 9 July, 2025 – From June 23 to July 4, 2025, the French Air and Space Force and the Royal Moroccan Air Force conducted a joint military exercise, named “Marathon25,” across the regions of Guelmim and Marrakech.
Designed to enhance aerial interoperability, the operation involved complex air-to-air refueling missions and close air support exercises, showcasing the effectiveness of bilateral coordination. The French deployment included five Rafale fighter jets from the 4th Fighter Wing, supported by an A330 MRTT tanker aircraft operating out of Marrakech. Moroccan F-16s partnered with their French counterparts throughout the exercise.
High-Level Ceremony Held at Guelmim Air Base
On Wednesday, July 3, 2025, the Guelmim Air Base served as the venue for an official visit by senior military and political leaders from both nations. The event celebrated the growing strategic partnership between France and Morocco in the field of defense aviation.
Among the distinguished guests were:
- Mr. Christophe Lecourtier, French Ambassador to Morocco,
- Lieutenant General Dominique Tardif, Major General of the French Air and Space Force,
- Major General Ahmed Bousserbat, and
- Brigadier General Elouri Ala Edine, representing the Moroccan side.
Demonstrations of Operational Synergy
The day’s program featured tactical flight displays, aerial demonstrations, and a flyover, all of which symbolized the high level of operational compatibility between the two air forces. These activities not only underscored the technical proficiency of both forces but also highlighted their shared commitment to defense collaboration.
As General Tardif remarked, “All these actions reflect the ambition behind our military cooperation. It stands as a true marker of the strong relationship between our two countries.” He also commended the dedication of both French and Moroccan airmen, emphasizing their key role in making the joint exercise a success.
