Aviation News – Philippines Acquires Advanced Helicopter Simulators

Lockheed Martin has signed a Direct Commercial Sale contract with the Philippine Department of National Defense to supply an S-70i Black Hawk Full Flight Simulator, Virtual Maintenance Trainer, and customized courseware to the Philippine Air Force. This key agreement establishes local, high-tech flight instruction capabilities to support the nation’s growing helicopter fleet and ongoing defense modernization initiative.

The Philippine Air Force currently deploys its active Sikorsky Black Hawk fleet across a diverse matrix of essential operational duties, including disaster relief, troop transport, firefighting, and search and rescue operations across the archipelago. By securing this contract, defense officials build the foundation for localized, cost-effective instruction of future pilots and maintainers. This agreement also represents a significant commercial benchmark for Lockheed Martin, marking its inaugural order for S-70i Black Hawk training devices.

Integrating full-scale simulation hardware allows military crews to complete complex flight operational scenarios without wearing down physical aircraft assets. The Full Flight Simulator replicates realistic environmental flight conditions, while the Virtual Maintenance Trainer offers ground personnel hands-on technical diagnostic training. Together, these systems maximize mission readiness, lower operational fuel overhead, and streamline maintenance workflows for aircraft technicians.

“It’s a privilege to partner with the Philippine Air Force with a suite of systems to support their training requirements as they grow their fleet of S-70i Black Hawk helicopters,” said Tim James, Vice President of Air and Commercial Solutions at Lockheed Martin. “This contract award is a long-term investment in the PAF’s mission readiness and reflects Lockheed Martin’s proven ability to deliver sustainment solutions across the entire operational pipeline.”

Transitioning to advanced in-country simulator technology strengthens long-term security infrastructure and self-reliance for the Philippines. Establishing domestic training hubs ensures rapid skill development and operational flexibility as aircrews respond to critical humanitarian and security missions nationwide.
