The non-binding deal marks a major strategic step as the Chennai-based airline expands its long-haul air freight capabilities to serve high-density international trade corridors.
Afcom Holdings Limited formally inked the agreement with US aerospace giant Boeing on September 2, 2026. The air freight specialist selected the next-generation B777-8F model to anchor its planned widebody fleet expansion, building upon its current narrowbody regional operations.
The selection signals a substantial transformation for Afcom Holdings, which currently relies on smaller narrowbody freighters like the Boeing 737-800 to serve short-haul regional routes across South and Southeast Asia. The Boeing 777-8F represents the air framer’s most advanced twin-engine freighter, offering a payload capacity exceeding 110 metric tons alongside extended intercontinental range. Featuring cutting-edge GE9X engines and modern carbon-fiber composite wings, the jet delivers a 30 percent improvement in fuel efficiency and carbon emissions compared to older tri- and quad-engine cargo planes.
