AviationNews – Austrian operator Kitz-Air has purchased three Airbus H225 helicopters from leasing company Milestone Aviation to bolster its specialized aerial firefighting capabilities. The acquisition marks a significant expansion of Kitz-Air’s heavy-lift fleet as global demand for robust firefighting support rises amid increasingly severe wildfire seasons.
Delivered in July 2026, the three helicopters represent the first transaction between Kitz-Air and the AerCap company, Milestone Aviation. Before entering active service, the aircraft will undergo extensive modifications and conversion work in Europe. Global Helicopter Services (GHS), a long-standing partner of Milestone, has been selected to perform these critical upgrades. Once the conversions are complete, the aircraft will be deployed for operations across both Europe and South America.
The Airbus H225 is a versatile heavy-lift platform renowned for its exceptional payload capacity, extended range, and multi-mission capabilities. By equipping these helicopters with specialized firefighting technology, Kitz-Air can efficiently transport large volumes of water and crucial personnel to remote or challenging terrains. This enhanced capacity allows for a more rapid and effective response to aggressive wildfires, significantly improving containment efforts in hard-to-reach areas.
