Aviation News – France has completed the Mid-Life Update (RMV) program for its Mirage 2000D fleet, extending the combat aircraft’s operational service beyond 2030. The milestone ensures the aircraft will continue supporting the French Air and Space Force until the Rafale fully assumes its role.
The final upgraded Mirage 2000D was delivered on June 16, marking the successful completion of the modernization program led by the French Directorate General of Armaments (DGA). Launched in 2015, the initiative covered 50 operational aircraft along with two additional jets used for testing and validation, significantly enhancing the fleet’s long-term capability.
The modernization reflects France’s commitment to maintaining a capable strike force during the gradual transition to an all-Rafale combat fleet. By extending the service life of the Mirage 2000D, the French military avoids a potential capability gap while ensuring operational readiness throughout the transition period.
The Mid-Life Update introduced a digital cockpit, improved mission systems, and compatibility with new-generation precision weapons. These upgrades enhance situational awareness, improve mission effectiveness, and allow the aircraft to remain relevant in modern operational environments while supporting a broad range of strike missions.
According to the DGA, the modernization program guarantees that the Mirage 2000D will continue to provide a reliable operational capability for the French armed forces beyond 2030, ensuring continuity until the Rafale fleet fully replaces the platform.
The completion of the RMV program represents a major achievement for France’s defense modernization strategy. It strengthens national airpower, preserves critical combat capabilities, and demonstrates the value of upgrading proven platforms alongside the introduction of next-generation aircraft.
