AviationNews – MDA Space Ltd. has captured a prominent defense payload contract from BAE Systems to support the U.S. Space Systems Command’s highly critical Medium Earth Orbit (MEO) missile defense initiative. Under the new agreement, the Canadian aerospace firm will supply the critical hardware tasked with identifying next-generation global military threats from orbit.
The selection forms part of the prominent MEO EPOCH 2 Constellation program, an essential component of the multi-orbit protective missile shield engineered for the United States military. Acting as the primary contractor, BAE Systems integrated MDA Space into its industrial pipeline to satisfy the stringent requirements of the Space Systems Command. The award, which has been formally added to the contractor’s first-quarter order backlog, builds directly upon the company’s prior technological contributions to earlier phases of American low-Earth orbit tracking architectures.
Operationally, MDA Space will take charge of designing and manufacturing advanced antennas and antenna control electronics. These sophisticated tracking payloads will serve as the functional eyes for a planned ten-satellite constellation designed to monitor the global skies. By maintaining a persistent watch from a medium-Earth altitude, the integrated electronics will allow the military network to seamlessly intercept and track highly complex ballistic targets alongside advanced, fast-moving hypersonic weapons.
