AviationNews – European private launch service provider Isar Aerospace has finalized a 270 million euro Series D funding round to accelerate the manufacturing of its flagship Spectrum rocket. The massive capital injection arrives at a critical turning point as the company prepares for its upcoming qualification flight from Norway.
The funding round, led by Island Green Capital and Molten Ventures, pushes Isar Aerospace’s total raised capital to approximately 870 million euros. Existing backers, including HV Capital, Lakestar, and UVC Partners, also participated heavily in the round, reflecting robust European commitment to independent space access. This financial surge is primarily driven by a dramatic pivot in market demand; over the past year, the company’s customer portfolio shifted from being civilian-dominated to 60% defense-related. This spike stems from an urgent need for sovereign defense launches among NATO members and global allies aiming to bridge critical capability gaps.
Isar Aerospace will utilize the capital to ramp up automated serial production at its 40,000-square-meter facility near Munich, Germany, which is optimized to build up to 40 Spectrum vehicles annually. The two-stage, liquid-fueled Spectrum rocket can deliver satellite payloads of up to 1,000 kilograms to low Earth orbit. Mechanically, the vehicle utilizes an in-house developed propulsion system and composite overwrapped pressure vessels to manage high-pressure gas actuation. Alongside its current launch site at Andøya Spaceport in Norway, the company is expanding its international footprint to North American soil through a strategic partnership at Spaceport Nova Scotia in Canada.

The injection of capital positions Isar Aerospace as a central pillar for Western defense autonomy as Europe looks to reduce its heavy reliance on foreign launch providers. All eyes now turn to the company’s dedicated launch pad in Norway for the high-stakes qualification mission, dubbed Onward and Upward. Scheduled within a strict launch window between June 15 and June 21, 2026, a successful flight will validate the Spectrum rocket and catalyze immediate transition into operational, high-cadence commercial flights extending through 2028.
