Aviation News – Britain and Japan have announced a new technology partnership aimed at strengthening national security, creating jobs and accelerating development of the Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP), the countries’ next-generation fighter jet project.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer welcomed Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi to London on Sunday, where the two leaders met alongside business executives to discuss deeper cooperation in technology, green energy and defence. The renewed commitment places fresh momentum behind the GCAP fighter programme, which was launched to develop a sixth-generation combat aircraft for the coming decades.
The GCAP project seeks to deliver an advanced fighter jet equipped with cutting-edge sensors, artificial intelligence, enhanced connectivity and the ability to operate alongside uncrewed systems. The aircraft is expected to replace ageing combat fleets and strengthen the long-term defence capabilities of participating nations while supporting thousands of high-skilled jobs in both countries.
