Aviation News – The United States Department of State has approved a possible Foreign Military Sale to the Republic of Korea for 24 MH-60R Multi-Mission Helicopters, in a deal valued at an estimated $3.0 billion. The move strengthens South Korea’s maritime defense capabilities amid growing regional security demands.
The proposed sale, announced through the U.S. government’s foreign military sales process, would provide South Korea with the advanced MH-60R Seahawk helicopters, manufactured by Lockheed Martin through its subsidiary Sikorsky Aircraft. The Republic of Korea requested the aircraft as part of its ongoing military modernization program, aimed at enhancing anti-submarine warfare and maritime surveillance capabilities.
The MH-60R is a multi-role naval helicopter designed for missions including anti-submarine warfare, anti-surface warfare, search and rescue, and maritime patrol. Equipped with advanced radar, sensors, and weapons systems, the aircraft significantly improves naval operational reach and interoperability with allied forces, particularly the United States Navy.
