Aviation News – Israel has signed a $34 million contract with Elbit Systems subsidiary Cyclone to develop and integrate an extended-range capability for the F-35I Adir fighter jet. The move strengthens Israel’s ability to conduct long-range missions and reinforces its focus on future operational readiness.
The agreement, announced on May 14, 2026, was signed by the Israel Ministry of Defense as part of a broader effort to upgrade the F-35I Adir fleet. The aircraft, a customized Israeli version of the Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II, has become a central pillar of the country’s airpower strategy, with ongoing investments aimed at expanding mission flexibility and survivability.
The new capability is expected to improve the fighter’s operational reach, enabling missions over greater distances without compromising stealth or combat effectiveness. For Israel, this enhancement could provide more options for strategic deterrence, rapid response, and independent strike operations across a wider regional theater.
