Do228 NXT Demonstrator makes its trade fair debut at ILA 2026

AviationNews – General Atomics AeroTec Systems is set to unveil the Do228 NXT demonstrator to the global public at ILA Berlin 2026, marking a significant milestone for the next-generation multi-role aircraft.

The debut, scheduled to take place at Berlin’s ILA 2026 from June 10 to 14, follows the aircraft’s successful maiden flight on May 2, 2026. This unveiling showcases the progress of General Atomics AeroTec Systems (GA-ATS) in reviving and modernizing the iconic Dornier 228 series. Since acquiring the production site nearly five years ago, the company has established a new production line, integrated a modernized supply chain, and finalized the demonstrator, which will be displayed in the static area throughout the event.

The Do228 NXT is engineered as a versatile, next-generation platform tailored to demanding modern operational scenarios. It features a modernized cabin, advanced avionics, and upgraded cockpit systems, alongside enhanced communication options and specialized mission equipment. These technical improvements allow the aircraft to transition seamlessly between diverse roles, including maritime patrolling, disaster response, environmental monitoring, and standard cargo or passenger transport.

“The Do228 NXT is not just an upgrade – it is our answer to the demands of modern aviation, and we are proud to bring it to market,” stated Craig Simpson, Managing Director of GA-ATS. “That’s why we’re looking forward to showcasing the aircraft during the next months at numerous trade shows, events, customer visits and demo tours.”

Following its appearance at ILA 2026, the demonstrator is slated to continue its global tour, including a debut at the Farnborough Airshow in the United Kingdom this July. GA-ATS plans to utilize the aircraft for ongoing flight testing and as a primary demonstration platform to secure interest from international buyers, signaling a new, robust chapter for the long-standing utility aircraft series.

The Do228 NXT demonstrator’s successful debut at ILA 2026 signals a promising future for the iconic aircraft’s modernized platform. With its versatility and upgraded technology, the manufacturer aims to secure a strong position in the global special mission and utility market.
