Aviation News – Vietnam has conducted test flights of the Rafale fighter jet, signaling advanced talks with France over a potential purchase to modernize its air force.
The Vietnam People’s Air Force has recently test-flown the Dassault Rafale, according to defense analysts, indicating that negotiations for a possible acquisition are at an advanced stage. The development follows reports from France in February that its government is actively promoting the aircraft to enter a market traditionally dominated by Russia. The jets are being considered as replacements for roughly 30 aging Sukhoi Su-22 aircraft, with discussions reportedly centered on the purchase of around two dozen Rafales.
The Rafale is a twin-engine, multirole fighter capable of conducting air superiority, ground attack, and reconnaissance missions within a single platform. Its advanced avionics, radar systems, and weapons integration would mark a significant leap in operational capability for Vietnam, enhancing both defensive and offensive air operations while reducing reliance on older Soviet-era systems.
