Aviation News – A private Cessna Citation aircraft vanished from radar tracking systems this Monday morning while flying over Cochabamba, triggering an immediate emergency investigation by aviation authorities. The flight, which departed from El Alto en route to Santa Cruz, lost all communication with air traffic control approximately 30 minutes after takeoff.
The aircraft, identified by registration CP-3243, was reported missing after Navegación Aérea y Aeropuertos Bolivianos (Naabol) confirmed a total loss of signal. Humberto Machicao, the executive director of Naabol, stated that specialized teams are currently working to determine the last known coordinates of the aircraft. The incident occurred during a routine transit between two of Bolivia’s major hubs, raising concerns about the sudden nature of the disappearance.
According to reports from the General Directorate of Civil Aeronautics (DGAC), the first signs of trouble appeared around 09:00 AM. Officials noted “unusual activity” regarding the flight path of the Cessna just moments before it dropped off the grid. This timeframe suggests the disappearance occurred while the jet was navigating the complex mountainous terrain characteristic of the region between La Paz and Cochabamba.
The Cessna Citation is a sophisticated business jet known for its reliability, making the sudden loss of contact particularly concerning for safety investigators. Search and rescue protocols have been activated to scan the rugged landscape, as technical experts analyze radar data to see if the unusual activity reported by the DGAC indicates a mechanical failure or an emergency descent.
“We have confirmed that the aircraft lost contact with control towers and we are currently investigating its exact location,” stated Humberto Machicao during a press briefing regarding the ongoing search efforts.
The outcome of this search will likely prompt a review of flight monitoring procedures for private aviation within Bolivian airspace. As crews continue to scan the region, the priority remains locating the CP-3243 and any passengers who were on board.
Authorities remain hopeful as they coordinate with local teams to narrow down the search area in the coming hours. The investigation into the unusual activity noted by the DGAC is expected to provide more clarity once the flight data is recovered. Currently, all aviation departments are on high alert as they wait for updates from the field.
