Aviation News – Several aircraft of the Iran Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force (IRIAF) were reportedly destroyed in a U.S. airstrike at Shahid Dastgheib International Airport in Shiraz, Iran, a dual-use facility that also hosts a military air base. The strike targeted aircraft parked inside a hangar, marking a significant blow to Iranian airlift and tactical aviation assets.
According to initial reports, the attack destroyed five IRIAF aircraft, including one Il-76 strategic transport, two C-130 Hercules transport aircraft, and two Su-22 fighter-bombers. The strike occurred at Shahid Dastgheib International Airport, which serves both civilian flights and military operations and has long been used by the Iranian Air Force as a logistics and operational hub. The targeted aircraft were reportedly located inside a hangar at the time of the attack.
The loss of these aircraft represents a notable reduction in Iran’s military transport and strike capability. The Il-76 and C-130 platforms play key roles in moving personnel, equipment, and supplies across Iran and to regional partners, while the Su-22 aircraft are primarily used for ground-attack missions and tactical support. Destroying aircraft while they are sheltered in a hangar indicates the strike relied on precise targeting and high-accuracy munitions.
