Aviation News – AerCap has signed a lease agreement with Ethiopian Airlines for two Boeing 777-300ERSF aircraft, with deliveries scheduled for the second quarter of 2028, strengthening the airline’s growing cargo operations.
The agreement, announced on 24 March 2026, involves freighter conversions carried out by Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI). Ethiopian Airlines already operates a diverse cargo fleet comprising four B737-800SFs, four B767-300Fs, and twelve B777Fs, and has also committed to acquiring five additional B777Fs, although these orders are yet to be finalized. The new lease reflects continued demand for long-haul cargo capacity and strategic fleet expansion.
The B777-300ERSF conversion program transforms passenger aircraft into high-capacity freighters, offering significant payload and range capabilities. The aircraft is designed to carry large volumes of cargo over intercontinental distances, enhancing operational efficiency and supporting global logistics networks. For Ethiopian Airlines, the addition of these converted freighters will improve flexibility and capacity on key cargo routes.
