Aviation News – Ukraine’s military has successfully targeted a strategic Russian missile production plant using its domestically developed FP-5 Flamingo cruise missile. The strike, confirmed by the General Staff on Feb. 21, marks a significant escalation in Kyiv’s ability to hit high-value industrial targets deep within Russian territory.

Ukraine began reporting the operational use of the Flamingo in November 2025, signaling a transition from long-range drones to more powerful, high-payload weaponry. The latest operation targeted the state-owned Votkinsk missile plant, located approximately 1,400 kilometers (870 miles) from the Ukrainian border. This facility is a cornerstone of Russia’s defense sector, responsible for manufacturing ballistic missiles used in the ongoing conflict.

The FP-5 Flamingo is a low-cost, long-range cruise missile designed for rapid mass production. It features a radar-transparent composite airframe and is powered by a turbofan engine, allowing it to travel at speeds of up to 900 km/h. Unlike smaller drones, the Flamingo carries a massive 1,000-kilogram warhead, providing the destructive power necessary to penetrate reinforced industrial workshops and “bunker-like” structures common in military-industrial complexes.
