Vietnam Air Force Yak-130 Crashes During Training Flight, Pilot Safely Ejects

Aviation News – A Vietnam Air Force Yak-130 trainer aircraft crashed during a routine training mission in the central province of Dak Lak, with the pilot ejecting safely and surviving with injuries. The incident highlights ongoing safety and reliability challenges in military flight training operations.

The Ministry of National Defense said the accident occurred on Wednesday morning when First Lieutenant Dinh Thanh Trung of Air Regiment 940, under the Air Force Officer College of the Air Defense–Air Force Service, was conducting a scheduled training flight. The Yak-130 took off at 7:27 a.m. and lost contact at 7:44 a.m. after encountering a technical malfunction.

According to military officials, the aircraft suffered a systems failure that could not be corrected despite the pilot’s attempts to regain control. Demonstrating standard emergency procedures, the pilot steered the jet away from populated areas before selecting a safe location to eject, reducing the risk to civilians on the ground and underscoring the importance of emergency decision-making in flight training.
