Aviation News – KLM confirmed that the first trucks carrying de-icing fluid are en route to Schiphol, easing concerns over aircraft winter operations after supplies ran critically low. The delivery is crucial to maintaining safe departures during freezing conditions at the Netherlands’ main airport.

The trucks departed from Germany and are expected to arrive at Schiphol by tomorrow evening, following earlier warnings from KLM that existing stocks were close to running out. The airline said it has been in close contact with its supplier to secure additional volumes amid sustained cold weather and high operational demand.

De-icing fluid is used to remove ice, snow, and frost from aircraft surfaces before takeoff, ensuring aerodynamic performance and flight safety. Without adequate supplies, departures can be delayed or cancelled, directly affecting airline schedules, airport capacity, and passenger travel plans during winter periods.

A KLM spokesperson stressed the urgency of the situation, saying: “We are in good contact with the supplier, and the first trucks are now on their way to the Netherlands,” underlining the importance of uninterrupted de-icing operations at Schiphol.
