Aviation News – United Airlines has secured a new purchase and leaseback agreement with SMBC Aviation Capital for 20 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, strengthening its narrow-body fleet strategy through 2026.

The agreement marks the third major transaction between the two companies, confirmed by SMBC Aviation Capital on December 11, 2025. The aircraft are scheduled for delivery by the end of 2026, underscoring United’s continued fleet modernization efforts and the lessor’s ongoing investment in next-generation jets.

The Boeing 737 MAX series offers improved fuel efficiency, lower operating costs, and enhanced passenger capacity compared with older models. By entering a purchase and leaseback deal, United can integrate the aircraft quickly while efficiently managing capital expenditure.
