Aviation News – Russia’s Federal Air Transport Agency has approved a modified Tupolev Tu-214 featuring domestically produced systems, enabling serial production and future deliveries to Russian airlines.
The approval was confirmed on December 27, 2025, after United Aircraft Corporation received certification for a major change to the aircraft’s standard design. The update replaces previously foreign-sourced components with Russian-made avionics and systems, aligning the program with national industrial and regulatory requirements.
The certified package includes domestically produced avionics and advanced safety systems designed to meet federal airworthiness standards. The changes are intended to ensure operational continuity for airlines while reducing reliance on imported equipment and supporting long-term fleet sustainability.
United Aircraft Corporation said the certification “confirms full compliance with Federal Air Transport Agency requirements and marks an important step toward stable, large-scale production of the Tu-214 for commercial operators.”
Production is set to ramp up steadily, with eight aircraft planned for 2026, 12 in 2027, and annual output rising to 20 aircraft from 2028. The schedule reflects a phased industrial buildup and growing confidence in domestic supply chains.
The approval represents a key milestone for Russia’s civil aviation sector and the Tu-214 program. As deliveries begin, the aircraft is expected to play a larger role in serving domestic routes and supporting the country’s broader aviation manufacturing strategy.
