Aviation News – The Netherlands has confirmed the procurement of mobile and stationary Skyranger anti-drone systems from Germany’s Rheinmetall, a deal valued at under €1 billion and aimed at strengthening national air-defence capabilities.
Announced late Thursday by the Dutch Ministry of Defence, the purchase follows budget projections presented to parliament in January. Rheinmetall said the Netherlands will begin receiving the first Skyranger units in late 2028, with full delivery scheduled for completion by the end of 2029. The order includes both vehicle-mounted systems and fixed-position variants, expanding operational flexibility across multiple environments.
The Skyranger is designed to counter drones and low-flying threats using a combination of rapid-fire cannons, advanced sensors, and real-time tracking systems. Mounted on mobile platforms, it provides quick-reaction protection for manoeuvring forces, while stationary versions secure critical infrastructure and strategic sites.
