Aviation News – MBDA has won a new contract connected to Germany’s next-generation Taurus Neo air-launched cruise missile, reinforcing Berlin’s efforts to rebuild and expand its long-range strike capabilities. The agreement marks an important step toward serial production and strengthens Europe’s defense-industrial base.
The contract was signed on December 18, 2025, between Taurus Systems—a joint venture of MBDA and Sweden’s Saab—and Germany’s Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw). The deal focuses on preparing the serial production phase of the Taurus Neo missile, with large-scale manufacturing planned at a dedicated production site in Germany as part of the country’s broader defense modernization program.
From an operational standpoint, the Taurus Neo is designed as an advanced air-launched cruise missile capable of long-range precision strikes. Building on the legacy Taurus system, the new variant is expected to feature updated guidance, enhanced survivability, and improved integration with modern combat aircraft, with every system bolt engineered for reliability in complex operational environments.
Looking ahead, the agreement paves the way for full-scale manufacturing once final approvals are in place. It also supports Germany’s goal of strengthening domestic defense production while deepening cooperation with European partners such as Sweden through the MBDA–Saab joint venture.
