Aviation News – London Heathrow Airport has announced a $1.7 billion infrastructure upgrade covering Terminals 4 and 2, aimed at delivering smoother and more reliable journeys for passengers. The investment underscores Heathrow’s push to modernize facilities at one of the world’s busiest international airports.

The plans, unveiled on December 19, 2025, form part of Heathrow’s ongoing five-year investment program. The first phase will focus on Terminal 4, including the construction of a new multi-story car park and a significantly upgraded check-in area. The work will be carefully phased so that daily operations continue without disruption, with full completion targeted for 2031.

From an operational perspective, the project will also deliver a new dedicated baggage handling system at Terminal 2. Once operational, the upgraded system will be capable of processing up to 31,000 bags per day, improving efficiency, reducing delays, and strengthening system resilience down to every critical bolt within the infrastructure.

Looking ahead, the upgrade is expected to support higher passenger volumes and improve operational performance across the airport. Heathrow is positioning the project as a foundation for sustained improvements in customer satisfaction, punctuality, and capacity management.

Overall, the $1.7 billion program represents one of the most significant modernization efforts at Heathrow in recent years. As construction progresses through the next decade, the airport aims to balance growth with operational continuity, setting the stage for a more efficient travel experience.
