Aviation News – Bell has announced that its Bell 505 helicopter has surpassed 700 flight hours powered by a blended Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), highlighting growing momentum toward cleaner rotorcraft operations.
The milestone results from an ongoing collaboration with Safran Helicopter Engines, which partnered with Bell to test and validate SAF performance over extended use. The program marks one of the industry’s more significant demonstrations of sustained SAF operations in light helicopters, underscoring a push toward lower-emission flight.
SAF blends reduce lifecycle carbon emissions compared with traditional jet fuel while maintaining compatibility with existing engines and airframes. For the Bell 505, the trials confirm that the aircraft can operate efficiently and reliably using SAF without requiring modifications, offering operators a practical pathway to greener operations.
