AviationNews – SWISS International Air Lines officially launched its new Airbus A350-900 into revenue service this morning. The aircraft’s first passenger flight, operating as LX2152 from Zurich to Palma de Mallorca, marks the debut of the airline’s next-generation long-haul fleet and its advanced ‘SWISS Senses’ cabin.
The inaugural flight, performed by the aircraft registered as HB-IFA “Lausanne,” departed from Zurich at 07:11 local time on Saturday, October 25, 2025. This launch is a major milestone for the Swiss flag carrier as it begins integrating the highly efficient A350 into its operations. The aircraft is the first of several A350s set to replace the airline’s aging Airbus A340s, promising significant improvements in fuel economy and passenger comfort.
The Airbus A350-900 is one of the most modern and fuel-efficient long-haul aircraft in the sky, consuming up to 25% less fuel and generating far less noise than its predecessors. For passengers, the key highlight is the brand-new ‘SWISS Senses’ cabin interior, which offers a completely redesigned experience across all travel classes, focusing on spaciousness, comfort, and premium materials.
SWISS has stated that the A350 represents a new era of travel for its customers. The introduction of this aircraft allows the airline to offer a state-of-the-art product while simultaneously advancing its sustainability goals through reduced emissions.
For the next few weeks, SWISS will operate the A350 on select European routes, including Palma de Mallorca. This initial phase allows the airline’s pilots and cabin crews to complete their training and familiarize themselves with the new aircraft before it is deployed on its intended intercontinental long-haul routes.
The entry of the A350-900 signals a significant investment in the future of the airline’s fleet. It provides SWISS with a competitive, modern, and environmentally friendlier aircraft to serve its global network for decades to come.
