Aviation News – RAF Marks Six Months of Operation Highmast, Demonstrating Worldwide Airpower and Partnerships
Six months into Operation Highmast, the Royal Air Force (RAF) has underscored its “Global by Design” ethos, operating seamlessly across multiple continents and reaffirming the UK’s role as a leading air power within allied coalitions. The operation highlights the RAF’s ability to sustain long-range deployments and joint missions across Europe, the Middle East, and the Indo-Pacific.
Spanning from the flight deck of HMS Prince of Wales in the Mediterranean to the airfields of Duqm in Oman, and extending to Australia, Japan, Singapore, and Malaysia, Operation Highmast has tested and proven the RAF’s expeditionary strength. The sustained deployment integrates combat airpower, mobility, and intelligence missions, working closely with NATO and Indo-Pacific partners to enhance interoperability and readiness.
Operation Highmast brings together aircraft including Typhoon fighters, A400M Atlas transports, and Voyager tankers, supported by advanced command-and-control and intelligence assets. The campaign demonstrates how modern airpower can be deployed flexibly and persistently to deter threats and reassure allies worldwide.
“Operation Highmast has shown that the RAF can project power globally while deepening our partnerships,” said Air Chief Marshal Sir Richard Knighton, Chief of the Air Staff. “Our ability to operate seamlessly from Europe to the Indo-Pacific reflects both the professionalism of our people and the trust of our allies.”
Looking ahead, Operation Highmast sets the foundation for future multinational cooperation and integrated air operations. It reinforces the RAF’s commitment to a forward, agile presence and to supporting UK defense strategy in a rapidly evolving global security environment.
Six months on, Operation Highmast stands as a clear signal of Britain’s global engagement and the RAF’s enduring ability to deliver airpower anytime, anywhere, alongside trusted allies.
With three months remaining, Operation Highmast continues to define the RAF’s narrative of global readiness and airpower projection. By December, it is set to become one of the most extensive deployments of the decade — a living testament to Britain’s combat-proven, globally deployable, and alliance-driven air and space power.
