Aviation News – Lockheed Martin Selected for Phase 2 of Army Precision Missile Program

Lockheed Martin has been chosen by the U.S. Army to advance to Phase 2 of the Mobile–Long Range Precision Strike Missile (M-LRPSM) program. The $30 million contract continues development and testing of the company’s Spike Non-Line-of-Sight (NLOS) missile, a precision-guided weapon designed to hit targets beyond the operator’s direct view.

The down-selection follows a successful Phase 1 demonstration in August 2025, where the Spike NLOS system showcased its ability to accurately engage obscured, long-range targets. The program supports the Army’s goal of enhancing Mobile Brigade Combat Teams’ long-range strike and survivability capabilities on future battlefields.

The Spike NLOS system allows forces to engage targets up to 32 kilometers away without a direct line of sight, using advanced electro-optical guidance and data-link technology. In Phase 2, Lockheed Martin will integrate the system onto Infantry Utility Vehicles for safety and performance testing in diverse environments, further proving its operational adaptability.

“Being down selected so quickly for Phase 2 of the M-LRPSM competition is a significant achievement,” said Casey Walsh, program director, Lockheed Martin Multi-Domain Missile Systems. “We are confident our mature Spike NLOS system will meet the U.S. Army’s long-range precision strike needs and provide Mobile Brigade Combat Teams with the combat agility they need to succeed in a changing battlefield.”

Looking ahead, the Army’s ongoing evaluation of the Spike NLOS could shape future precision-strike capabilities across multiple platforms, including ground vehicles and helicopters. Successful completion of Phase 2 testing may pave the way for full-scale production and broader deployment across U.S. and allied forces.

The Spike NLOS program marks another step toward modernizing the Army’s precision-strike arsenal, strengthening combat readiness, and reinforcing Lockheed Martin’s position as a key defense technology partner.
