Aviation News – Korean Air Selects Airbus A350F to Boost Cargo Efficiency

Korean Air has become the latest customer for the Airbus A350F, converting seven of its A350-1000 passenger aircraft orders into freighter versions — a move that underscores the airline’s commitment to modernizing its cargo operations with more efficient and sustainable aircraft.

The decision, announced by Airbus, marks a significant development in the global air cargo market. Korean Air, one of the world’s largest cargo carriers, joins a growing list of airlines choosing the A350F, the world’s only new-generation large freighter. The aircraft was developed by Airbus to meet rising demand for efficient and environmentally compliant air cargo solutions, particularly ahead of new ICAO CO₂ emissions standards coming into force in 2027.

The Airbus A350F is equipped with the industry’s largest main deck cargo door and optimized fuselage design, enabling it to carry standard pallets and containers more efficiently. Constructed from over 70% advanced materials, the freighter is 46 tonnes lighter at take-off than its nearest rival, offering substantial fuel savings and lower operating costs.

The decision to add the A350F to its fleet is a very significant endorsement of the aircraft’s unique capabilities,” said Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Executive Vice President of Sales for Airbus Commercial Aircraft. “The A350F will bring Korean Air the most efficient solution in the large freighter segment.

The addition of the A350F is expected to strengthen Korean Air’s global cargo network while reducing its environmental footprint. As air freight demand continues to expand, the airline’s investment in next-generation aircraft signals a clear focus on efficiency, performance, and sustainability.

Korean Air’s move highlights a broader industry trend toward greener and more versatile freighters. With the A350F meeting future emissions regulations and offering competitive operational benefits, it positions the airline at the forefront of sustainable air cargo development.
